Consumers and breeders serious about canine health should visit this Australian website. Lots of great info on genetic problems seen in purebred dogs.
Holding breeders to a standard is one of the most important ways to reduce animal suffering and consumer fraud.
When you purchase a pup with medical problems whether they are obvious early on or will manifest later in the dog's life, the dog suffers and so does your heart and wallet. ALL consumers who purchase a purebred or "designer" breed (expensive mutts!) should expect a breeder to be able to produce PROOF that their breeding dogs and or pups have been screened for common disorders. Otherwise, what are you paying for??

Very interesting article on Dog Star Daily
This article is a bit long but if you are interested in the topic of buying vs adopting dogs you will find it interesting.
We are so pleased that PupQuest was mentioned twice and is seen as an important resource to help folks find reputable shelters or breeders!
PupQuest is much more PRO ADOPTION than purchase but we don't believe that accusing well meaning people of NOT adopting is the way to stop shady breeders. When we accuse we lose the opportunity to educate that consumer and when WE lose them THEY get to take total advantage! "THEY" being the disreputable greedy breeders.
What do you think??
